Blu Cigs Premium Starter Pack Gets a Makeover
Blu Electronic Cigarettes
If you don’t know by now, blu ECigs was the first electronic cigarette company to be purchased by a large U.S. tobacco company. In 2012, Lorillard, makers of Newport and Kent Cigarettes smelled the vapor (so to speak) and purchased the company for a healthy $135 Million. It has since been sold to Imperial Tobacco and sales are even stronger.
I’ve tried Blu Cigs twice; several years ago and soon after the Lorillard sale. I don’t know if Lorillard had anything to do with it, but the product improved with the bluPLUS line of Starter Kits. That said, it still has a long way to go.
Back in October of ’13, I reported that Blu’s kit was overpriced (and it was). The latest “cig-alike” version, called blu Plus Rechargeable Kit has gone up in price from $34.99 to $42.99. There are far better choices on the market if you’re looking for a high quality e-cigarette.
Here’s what you get from Blu:
- 1 x blu PLUS+ Rechargeable Pack
- USB charging cable
- 2 x blu PLUS+™ batteries
- 3 x Classic Tobacco blu PLUS+ Tanks (2.4% nicotine)
You used to be able to choose your cartridge flavor when you bought a kit, but that’s no longer possible. If you would rather vape another flavor you have to purchase additional cartridges.
True to blu
Blu Electronic Cigarettes
You will experience a bit more vapor and less recharging than in the earlier model, the product is still gives you average vapor production and average tasting cartomizers.
All blu starter packs and batteries last for about 80-100 puffs before requiring a full recharge. Blu’s batteries should last for 250-300 puffs, but expect to change the cartridge before the battery needs charging.
You get about 200 puffs (depending on your vaping habits), with the blu Starter pack, the blu Original, and blu Premium cartridges. That’s not quite 1 pack of traditional cigarettes.
Regarding flavors….there are currently 2 Tobacco flavors; 1 Menthol flavor, Strawberry, Blueberry, Vanilla, Mint Chocolate, Glacier Mint, Caramel, and Berry Cobbler. (flavor selections can change).
All flavors, tend to be on the sweet side. Blu promises their ejuice is made in the USA from both imported and domestic ingredients – but they do not provide a breakdown.
Promises
Blu ECigs no longer has a 30 day money back guarantee, but it has a 1-year warranty. There is free shipping; however, it may take up to 2 weeks for orders to be shipped and blu does not claim responsibility for lost USPS packages.
The customer service has been reported as lacking both by ECigarette Forum reviewers and the US Better Business Bureau, with 157 Complaints received (and resolved) within the past 3 years.
According to BBB rating factors, blu ECigs are Rated “A” mainly because of the length of time the business has been operating. It’s interesting to note that blu ECigs have a higher rate of complaints than other e-cig companies with slightly lower ratings.
PROS:
- Signature blu Tip
- Charging Pack
- Company Longevity
CONS:
- Average customer service and delivery time
- Flavors not as good as other traditional e-cig brands

The only problem that I find with Blu Cigs is the points system they use in order for you to get different free items. I recently just started an on-line account to use the points you receive from blu-cig purchases. My points keep disappearing. Two days ago I had 960 points, when I went on-line today to use my promo-code to add points, I noticed that they dropped from 960 points to 860 points. I then entered my promo-code from a purchase of three cartridges, it went to 910. I signed back in less than 5 minutes later and it was back at 860 points. WHERE ARE MY POINTS?? I should have 1100 points RIGHT NOW!! I can see that it is a scam and a waste of time and effort. If this continues, I will just go back to using VUSE for the simple fact that YOU ARE SCREWING ME OVER! I want someone to send me an e-mail and do a better job of explaining the point system, because your web-site poorly does so. WHY HAVE THIS POINT SYSTEM IF YOU CAN NOT BUILD UP YOUR POINTS?? I have spent over $60.00 in 2 1/2 weeks in 3 seperate purchases and completed the instagram, twitter, facebook, and many other options to get points. I SHOULD HAVE MORE THAN 860 POINTS!! I should have AT LEAST 1100 POINTS AS OF RIGHT NOW! You guy’s need to tighten up and keep your word and give me my 1100 points! I AM SO TIRED OF GETTING SCAMMED ON SHIT LIKE THIS!!
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for commenting here. Obviously you are wildly disappointed with Blu Cigs customer service, or should I say integrity! Rather than choosing VUSE (another ecig owned by Big Tobacco) I recommend trying Halo Cigs which have an excellent rewards program. Check out thid link to Halo. They have the beginner style ecigarette (like Blu) with cartridges. or you may want to try one with a refillable mini-tank. Wishing you happier vaping!
I am happy with blu even though it has a short battery life due to the small size which I prefer as I do not want a big around or a long e cig..I also like the johnsons creek vg juice that blu uses.

Hi Deeny and thanks for your feedback. Blu is a very popular ecigarette and I’m pleased it works for you as a tobacco cig alternative. That’s what it’s all about. Cheers and happy vaping!
I had to comment.
This it my second type of e-cig I have tried.
It’s horrible.
Flavor doesn’t last and it only holds a charge for about 6 hours.
I also posted my 2 star comment on there website and it disappears.

Hi Jan,
I think Blu Cigs remain popular because they have been around so long and the name is so well known. We review them for that reason, but they’re near the bottom of our list. We’re thinking about moving them to the last position too.
They DO NOT PROVIDE A 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, PLEASE CHANGE THAT.

Hey J – Thanks for that information! I will make the update.

Hi Sandt – Thanks for your helpful review of Blu Cigs! As you can see by our 7.5 star rating and our less than stellar review of Blu E-Cigs we agree, this electronic cigarette product is not at the top of our list. The only reason we chose to include it in our ratings is that it’s still one of the most popular brands, (probably because it’s been around a long time and it’s available in some retail stores) and the uncanny fact the Better Business Bureau gives them an A Rating.
Our highest ratings go to Vaporfi and Halo. They are top notch products and they really care about quality and customer satisfaction.
Blu cigs have got to be the worst example of an e-cig possible. How they can even make it to a top 100 is beyond me. I started vaping a few weeks ago in an attempt to quit smoking. I grabbed a Blu disposable and it wasn’t bad, so I decided to buy their starter kit. The batteries last, at best, 40-50 puffs. The cigs have zero throat hit and no discernible vapor. I constantly had to puff in the hopes of quelling my nicotine withdraw to no avail. After a few days I was edgy and irritable.
A friend of mine let me try his Green Smoke and it was a completely different world. I spoke with and tried a few other friends’ vapes as well, and couldn’t believe the difference. I spoke with my uncle who has been vaping for years. He made a few suggestions and let me try several of his vapes. I decided on the Halo brand and am thrilled that I did.
The worst thing about Blu is, had I not had friends and family who were vapers, I might be smoking cigs again and never even considered the possibility of vaping as an alternative.
Blu e-cigs get a resounding -10 stars from me.
Good post. I’m experiencing some of these issues as
well..
